How much experience do you have? How many games have you shipped? Common questions in job interviews, review times, and in bragging right contests. Does it matter? Sure it does; however, there isn’t really a set in stone method for calculating these…
Wait, what do you mean there’s no set in stone way?! I shipped 3 games in 6 years, /thread. Well, you’re the easy case. Here are some examples of the not so easy cases:
Shipped 5 casual titles in one year with an average review of 70 and 50k players of each.Shipped 20 casual titles in one year with no reviews and 2k players of each.Delivered military / medical simulations with game-like features.Worked on ongoing open source technology that doesn’t ever really ship.Worked as a contractor for a company for partial time of a project.Etc.But then you also get into side projects, that maybe people played or didn’t, but significant time was spent on. IE, Built a L4D / TF2 Mod, ran your own emulated server of xyz game, made your own physics engine. Do they count? Does it matter if it was 1 month spent, 3 months, 6
