Engineering for Gold in WOTLK

It wasn't until I reached the Wrath of the Lich King expansion of the World of Warcraft that I began to take Engineering as a profession seriously. It's not that I thought the profession hard or boring, it's just that I had heard from other players in the guild that it was an expensive profession to master.

Now let's be clear on the matter of the professions in World of Warcraft. Some professions are more expensive to level than others. These all apply to crafting professions of which Engineering is one. But with some careful planning and some artful trading you can level your Engineering to that of a Grand Master without too much difficulty. I go into more detail on leveling Engineering on my blogs listed below, but in this article I want to focus on how Engineering can add to your gold.

One of the most useful devices Engineers can make in the Wrath of the Lich King for the making of gold is the Zapthrottle Mote Extractor. Now this device was introduced in The Burning Crusade expansion and is used to extract gas from nearby gas clouds. The schematic for Zapthrottle Mote Extractor can be obtain by completing a simple quest given by K. Lee Smallfry which is available to both Horde and Alliance. You can find Smallfry at Telredor in Zangarmarsh. To engineer the device requires Engineering of 305.

You'll find all types of gas clouds floating around in the Burning Crusade, but few people seem to realize that gas clouds also exist in Wrath of the Lich King from which all manner of crystallized elements can be extracted. An example is the extraction of crystallized fire and crystallized water from the clouds in the Sholazar Basin. The 100% drop rate together with the two or three elements dropped per gas cloud make this a great way to farm eternals in WOTLK.

It's interesting that players seem to forget about the Zapthrottle once they reach WOTLK and consequently the gas clouds go unharvested. So, friend, if you have yet to level your Engineering to a skill of Artisan and above then work on your Engineering craft and make gold in WOTLK with this great device.
