Starcraft 2 Zerg Mutalisk Zergling Strategy

In the game of Starcraft 2, for solo games, I think the Zerg Mutalisk/Zergling strategy is really effective. It really shines on large maps, and if used correctly will catch most opponents off guard.

The simple trick to this strategy is that you are building your technology up to Mutalisks, you save almost all of your Vespene Gas for this goal. In the meantime you are massing Zerglings which you should be able to use and effectively hinder your opponents.

Do you see why this can be so powerful? You have Zerglings which can run around and keep the opponent on guard, their speed is pretty much unmatched. You are able to mass so many Zerglings while teching to Hydralisks, that you have beginning game superiority (most of the time).

Then when you finally have a Spire, you've saved up six hundred Vespene, enough for six Mutalisks immediately. It is important with this strategy to be able to build Mutalisks immediately after your spire. So make sure you have enough Overlords to support your Mutalisks, and enough Larvae. Not to mention enough minerals, which is a given.

This Zerg strategy favors to having two Hatcheries in your main base, and an expansion. I like to build the expansion first but it is personal preference, I usually decide based on the situation.

The Mutalisks need to hit hard and fast, they come with the element of surprise (we hope). We also hope, and can be reasonably assured, that your opponent didn't expect six or seven Mutalisks so quickly! One Turret can be quickly wiped out, two or three Queens can be wiped out also. A couple Stalkers will go down smooth like butter. Not to mention you still have your speedlings to work with.

Lastly, speedlings is Zerglings but with the speed upgrade. You should always get that upgrade with Zerglings, although I start it right after I upgrade my hatchery. Don't underestimate the power of mobility, the Zergling Mutalisk army is extremely mobile. Mobility is the power of this technique, you aren't supposed to fight the opponent one on one (unless you have an advantage). You can beat your opponent without directly going head to head with him, using this strategy and their mobility.

Make sure you have at least two Queens with your three Hatcheries, three is better if you have the minerals. Keep that Spawn Larvae pumping as always, and don't forget about your Overlords.

Here is a neat little tip that always helps me. Once you start your Spawn Larvae cycle with the Queen, after they spawn you'll have so many Larvae to work with. After you build all of them, one more Larvae will spawn in a few seconds. I always use this one to make an Overlord, and so far it gets me through middle into late game before I need to really amp up my Overlord production rate.
