Like gold and fine wine, PS3 gets more valuable with age

Don’t blame Sony – whenever a game or system doesn’t perform well, the parent company tends to conduct some damage control. This is exactly what the company’s doing in the wake of the PS3 losing out to Wii and Xbox 360′s 2010 US holiday sales numbers. Quoth SCEA director of corporate communications Patrick Seybold, “The combination of innovative hardware and a relentless line-up of blockbuster titles is why the PS3 is perhaps the only console that grows more valuable over time.”

We’re not quite sure what’s implied by Seybold’s value growth claim – certainly, as Blu-ray has become the standard high-def format for home video, the PS3′s functional value has increased. But, as far as we know, the PS3′s monetary value hasn’t significantly increased lately.
