DS becomes best selling handheld ever in US

Yet another excuse for Nintendo to bust out the champagne; DS sales have reached 47 million, making it the best selling handheld of all time across North America.

The PS2 tops it at 50 million units sold, but that’s not far off for a handheld that still has a little life left in it. The Wii is no slouch either, sitting at 34 million sold since launch across America.

Of course it wouldn’t be a Nintendo story without a well delivered statement from NOA president Reggie Fils-Aime: “When we look back at 2010, we see consumers time and again turning to the value and enjoyment of our products. When we look ahead to 2011, we see new portable technology and more great Wii games that need to be seen to be believed.”
