Bulletstorm seeking Gears-like success

Publisher EA’s Partners program chief David DeMartini is expecting Epic Games and People Can Fly’s Bulletstorm to be big, wouldn’t you know it. And so much so that it’ll rival the success of Gears of War, even.

“Let’s not call it Call of Duty or Medal of Honor massive, where I’m thinking Call of Duty maybe 15 million units, Medal of Honor maybe seven. It could be very much like Gears,” the VP and group GM said in a recent interview.

That’d be around 6 million then; according to data collector VGChartz, the first Gears has sold just over 6 million copies worldwide (PC version excluded), and the second just under 6 million.

“It’s new IP, so let’s hang that around its shoulders if you will,” he added.

The “light-hearted wrapper” that is the shooter’s trigger happy gameplay is not to be mistaken for a light-hearted product though, DeMartini makes clear in the same chat. “..it’s way deeper than you see on the surface…This is a big gaming experience and people are going to be stunned as we release more and more information over the next couple of months about its depth and how good it actually is.”

Bulletstorm‘s scheduled for February; 22nd in North America, 25th in Europe.
