Backwards compatibility coming back to PS3?

Did you feel burned when Sony announced they were removing backwards compatibility from the PlayStation 3? Apparently, you weren’t the only one. As reported by Japanese website Gigazine, Sony seems to have patented technology allowing for previous-generation games to be played on current-generation consoles. Fair warning: nowhere does this patent explicitly state that its intent is to allow PS2 games to be played on the PS3. However, other explanations are seemingly limited. We’re guessing Sony isn’t planning on letting you stream your minidisc collection through the PS3′s media center.
