PSP sales in Japan have hit 15 million, numbers  from Enterbrain show. That’s almost 6 years worth of sales then; from December 12, 2004 to September 12, 2010.

Worldwide sales as of this July, according to Sony’s own figures, are creeping up on 49 million. Software’s at just over 214 million.

Looking at sales numbers of its competitor, the DS, the Sony handheld has been putting up a fight in the last year — DS’ year-to-date sales are at 1,597,712 and the PSP’s at 1,421,678  — though life-to-date sales are still miles behind the Nintendo machine, which has sold over 31 million units in the country.
